During the course of a two day workshop, Dr. Nela Milic (UAL) talked about participatory art practice at the Giraldo Gallery (Évora Municipality), and gave a Seminar at the Biblioteca Jorge Araújo, Colégio dos Leões, University of Évora. The participants were students from the 1st year Degree Course of Fine Arts and Multimedia, and from the Master Degree Course in Artistic Practices in Visual Arts, of the University of Évora (classes of Prof. Teresa Furtado and Prof. Vítor Gomes). The students learned about participatory art main thinkers, practices and methodologies. The focus of the workshop was to trigger student ideas and reflections about Évora city in particular and Alentejo region in general. By the end of the 1st day it was decided that all participants would engage in a collective performance about the common prejudice and stygma that Alentejo people are lazy. The performance was enacted at Giraldo Square, around a public sculpture of a tree, which unleashed several reactions in the community that was at Giraldo Square. At the end of the 2nd day the students collectively drew a map of Évora based on their own personal histories. Later the Multimedia II students, of Prof. Teresa Furtado class, created videos about their workshop experiences.
